Formatting your memory card

You must format the memory card when inserted into the camera.

To that end, press the MENU button, so there is always at our camera, and then look for the position FORMAT. Best to do it with your camera's instructions and hands, because in different formatting models may require a slightly different order select items from the menu.
NOTE: Do not format the card using a computer, or when the card is inserted into specially designed for her nest. Almost all laptops have the slot.

SD card 2GB holds about 400 photos taken with camera 10MP resolution matrix (MP = megapixel). That's a lot of pictures and therefore

Memory card sizes

There are two memory card sizes:

Capacity is expressed in gigabytes (GB = gigabyte)
The rate is expressed in Mb / s (Mb / s = megabyte per second)
Currently, the smallest capacity of 2GB SD cards are SDHC 4GB
SDXC cards are still quite expensive and there is absolutely no need for users of simple compact cameras.

Older cameras can not use SDHC cards and SDXC
Older models require an Olympus xD cards
Older models of Sony cameras require a card called Memory Stick Duo

Digital camera memory card

Photos taken by us are stored on a memory card inserted in the camera. The most popular types of memory cards to SD and SDHC cards. These devices allow to write to them and read the information in digital form. Not bothering to detail, we can say this:

On the memory card saves pictures that we do our camera.
Pictures can be stored on the card:
view camera
transfer to your computer and watch on its screen
Digital compact cameras are very often built on a permanent memory that allows you to save a few to several photos. However, this is definitely not enough to use the camera on a trip, or during the name-.
That is why we must buy into the camera memory card. You need to know what type of card can be used in our camera. This information is in the camera's manual and you find it necessary.

How to hold the camera taking pictures?

This is a seemingly ridiculous question, but holding the camera from a proper and correct to press the button (trigger) depends on whether the snapshot picture will come out well, or are "not bad". The Why?

All the cheap and simple digital cameras are shaped boxes measuring about 9cm x 5cm and a thickness of about 2cm. We write about cheap and simple, because such use of children. On the back of the camera, display, or screen-which is what we want to take photos or watch the pictures already taken. Display occupies almost the entire surface and on its sides, there are a few buttons to set the camera so that under the circumstances, the pictures were the best possible. A few buttons on it is on top of the camera.

It is very difficult to hold the camera in his hands without touching these buttons. And if you tighten your hand too much, it's very easy to accidentally change the settings.

Tips for holding your camera while shooting:

We have to keep it in my hands, that they did not cause any tightening of press of any button on the camera body.
However, we must firmly hold the camera to come out from his hand and rocked in his hands.
However, we must hold the camera quite freely because the gripping hand tremor and causes them to blur.
Shutter button, which button you press to take a picture, press slowly, gently. Why?
When you press the shutter a little, at this point begins the focus and exposure control. Pressing the end of the "button" to take a picture.
The focus and exposure control, although only occupy a fraction of second but too quick to press the shutter button to the end can make the picture is taken before the selected camera settings are correct.

Endless postproduction

I have already mentioned in earlier articles except that, when working in Photoshop, sometimes hard to stop. Although nothing further manipulations do not add a photo, graphic rushing forward momentum. It happens that after spending many hours (and sometimes even days) at a distance of one job loses. Sometimes it starts too attached to their work. Sometimes, even the comments of the public, is not able to "cut the umbilical cord. " Therefore, a great practice to write the next version of the file, so as to always be able to return to earlier. It is also sometimes consult each other and if the fifth time I hear that there is nothing to fix, you may want to consider your job done.

Constant adjustments

Someone once said that if everything we always looked out for the first time, it would be us on earth, a hundred billion, maybe more. Bearing in mind that not everything goes right away, I like to keep the correct frame, lighting and setting the model. Usually I follow the progress on the monitor, so hook up your camera to your computer. During this session, the camera was also connected to the computer and using the plug-in for Lightroom pictures were sent for immediate preview on the screen. However, the "instant"is a term somewhat exaggerated. Leica S2 (ie the camera, who then tested) communicates with the computer via a wired USB 2.0, which combined with the plugin for Lightroom proves to be very lucky combination. Compared with a FireWire connection and software Phase One, which often work, transmission speed left much to be desired.

Working with models

In my opinion, most attention should be devoted to casting. The choice of models is not always a simple thing, very easy to make mistakes that frustrate our efforts. For best viewing, of course, hire professionals to look for the casting director at the helm. Unfortunately, even the film industry do not always have sufficiently high budget. Looking for models for a similar session, remember that it really hiring an actor, not a pretty face. Not just a pretty face - it is necessary to the ability to pose, play a necessary role-play. Beginner models often fail to control the body and facial expression to a sufficient extent. If you have to work with someone inexperienced, ask to previously practiced, such as the mirror, and umówcie the shots.

Photography and its context

Nothing exists in a vacuum, photography as well. Therefore, the key issue for the "right" (with these or other reasons) receiving photos is the context - both the circumstances in which we see a particular photograph and the circumstances of its creation. There is significant knowledge of the person views the photo, her life experience, expectations of photography in general and against the genre of photography, to which the image data. In short - everything is important.

Otherwise, read the full photograph frames of references to the classical masters of a person familiar with the history of this medium, and otherwise a complete layman, for whom it will be "just black and white picture" (I recommend an article that will appear in "Wide frame" in the next month) . Childless, single, loves to party all night otherwise insightful look at the photo of the lovely little baby than the mother of two children.

A person without much contact with photogrpahy, new to the technical issues can be delighted shots that do not bear any value beyond the persuasive presentation of the application of a technique. For her, it will be "incredible fota", for us, nothing special.

Photography and motion

Since the photograph as a finished image is stationary, has long been controversy continues about the best way to record the movements. Some argue that it is best to freeze the shares will write a short shutter speed (for example, extracting an effort on his face as an athlete in the example above). Others tout a long exposure time and, for example tracking the movement of the subject apparatus, or panning. Shooting in the rally car so it's easy to quickly overcome the impression of distance by contrast sharply with the car mapped blurred background (similar to what we see out the window fast-moving train.) In short, the "weakness" photograph often becomes its strength. Besides, sometimes the difficulties in achieving the cheer to the increased effort, which results in interesting and successful solutions. Paradoxically, the limitations of photography, that is, its distance from reality, they are also the most effective weapon in the fight for "true" representation of the world - a difficult, easy or even possible is another.

Photography and time

On the one hand, photography is not able to show reality in-time, on the other - easily can show the world not visible with the naked eye. Simply select the appropriate exposure time. Just as framing the scene cuts to a particular piece, pretending that nothing around there, just a short shutter speed cuts lasting for a split second moment, invisible to humans. Similarly, on the other end of the spectrum - a slow shutter speed allows you to accumulate time for one image, creating an image, without the aid of a camera we would not have opportunities zobaczyć.Odmienne from the human perception of time to present it in the photograph extends well into the problems of vibration and image blur. Picture taken from the hand at shutter speeds are too long to get nieporuszonego image at first glance, it looks unnatural - not so we see the world. Yet again we find the difference between us, which is placed at each unsteady step in the confusion, consciousness and reality. Human brain images from multiple vibrating migawkowo coming to him during the short time he can put together a fairly clear representation of reality. Uwiarygadnia them by the fact that we know that at any given time we go (or sway from side to side) or ride the tram for example, where the very shaking. In a sense, the way in which photography plays with time, can in some cases to compensate for the flat image photographed by the viewer to experience the scene all the senses. Action frozen very short shutter speed allows you to look at the athlete's face, was making a superhuman effort, and provide the atmosphere of sportsmanship during the competition doping clattering fans. Slightly raised, grainy photograph on the night will give a better mood walking after dark, when they actually may be somewhat vague and careless than the razor-sharp shot.

Sight and other senses

If a photographer wants to accurately depict the scene so that the viewer's feelings were a little similar to what would feel, being a photographer on site at the time of the photo, you just have to cheat. Why? Because, contrary to appearances, even the most faithful to the visual placing shooting situation of little avail. Finally, we have five senses, right? That is why, taking pictures, we try to compensate for the lack of smell or sound. Lazy summer afternoon in the quaint Parisian cafe is not just a tiny table with circular top and unhurried gazing at the crowd of passers-by. It is also a hubbub of voices, clatter of dishes collected by the waiters, the sound of coffee, the smell of coffee and croissants, mixed with the smell of perfume and cologne, and (thankfully less and less) cigarette smoke. How does it show the picture? The answer is simple, such as always - by resorting to manipulation!

Cyanotype

Cyanotype technique using light sensitivity of iron salts. As the creator of cyanotype considered Willam John Frederick Herschel (1792-1871). Herschel is best known for the discovery in 1819 in the capacity of sodium thiosulfate to dissolve the silver chloride. This discovery (1839 year), in conjunction with kalotypią William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877), the possibility of capturing images. That same year, Herschel also formulated the terms used today ie: photography, negative and positive. In their experiments searching for cheaper methods of reproduction - unfortunately no photos, but notes. The method, invented by Herschel - Richard T. Rosenthal called cyjanotypią.Anna Atkins (1799-1871), botanist, one of the first female photographers, in 1841 she met Talbot (creator kalotypii) friend of her father. Under the influence of an interest in photography Talbot. For his work as an elected Cyanotype affordable, easy and inexpensive to produce. Released in 1843, the first volume of books Fri British algae: Cyanotype Impressions. " This was done in the whole book Cyanotype (including text and illustrations). Ahead of this book Talbot Fri "The Pencil of Nature" (1844). His works were performed piling leaves and flowers directly on paper. Issued a total of 12 parts, 424 photos illustrating them in the cyanotype technique. Rediscovered in 1966 when it appeared on the auction of its książka.Francuz Henri Jean-Louis le Secq (1818 -1882), he used this method in the early 50s of the XIX century. In 1852 he received from the Commission des Monuments Historiqes commissioned the preparation of documentation in the cathedrals of Rheims and Chartres. Partially done work in cyanotype. This method also used the Hyppolite Bayard (1801-1887), Dr. Peter Henry Emerson (1856-1936) and of course the same Talbot. Since 1880, cyanotype paper was produced in large quantities. Used it often - even in the 90s of the twentieth century - the architects and engineers to make copies of technical drawings. Inexpensive method of exposing the contact exposure on paper soaked in salt solution of potassium ferrocyanide and iron oxide. Under the influence of light reaction of salt iron oxide which darkens giving the Prussian blue. Areas covered are white. Prints are called Blueprint (blue print). The resulting images are often contrasting and probably not suitable for halftone photographs. Finished prints are apparently not very stable, but until today pictures from 1843.

White Balance

The correct white balance (WB) setting gives us above all a faithful reproduction of colors with no color casts. which is pure white, neutral gray. At the same time the white balance can be used to take images in a particular climate. For example, in the room where the lights are just an ordinary light bulbs with tungsten white balance setting for just such a light source to get the correct colors. But when you set the white balance to daylight this picture comes out very yellow in tone. Adjusting settings we can change the balance of the dominant color saturation.

More about color temperature

The concept of color temperature is applied for color photography. As previously mentioned, our eye has the ability to adapt to lighting conditions, almost always perceive colors correctly, even when the lighting will have a strong dominant such as red as the sunset. However, in such situations, digital equipment requires proper setting. For measuring the color temperature gauges are special. They can show the actual color temperature and the number of the filter, which compensates us dominant. The digital video recording can match the final color image to the currently prevailing lighting conditions. Serves the function of white balance (WB). Its use is to match the values adjustable to the prevailing light conditions.

Color Temperature

Very helpful concept is the color temperature of light. Explaining the issue, Let's take an example. As everyone knows, we need to get a light warm up a body to a very high temperature. On this principle operate incandescent bulbs (the sun, too). Tungsten filament is heated by flowing through an electric current is not and starts to shine. Depending on this, the high temperature as it warms, it will shine a very bright or less intense, and thus, the color of light will change. Very easy to see the effect of torches, when the batteries are exhausted and the bulb gradually begin to produce less and less light - its color changes from dark yellow to yellowish red through and then goes off. It is associated with a drop in temperature to which the tungsten wire is heated up. The lower the temperature, the light is less intense and committed to its color red, the higher the temperature, the more light and its color changes in the direction of white. In case of further raising the temperature starts to dominate the color blue. As you can see, a given temperature corresponds to the specific color of light.

Few things about the light

White light is really a mixture of waves of different lengths and what's involved, different colors ranging from blue through green, ending in the red. The scope of the visible spectrum below shows the graphic illustration. Radiation at wavelengths shorter than violet is called ultra-violet, while the waves longer than red are called infrared radiation. The human eye registers the specified portion of spectrum known as visible waves. Photographic and digital sensors are so designed as to record the same spectral range, which captures our eye. White light is a mixture of all colors, but when one of them begins to dominate the resultant color of light changes. Our eye is able to automatically adapt to a fairly broad range of such changes, and usually we see the color properly, while the digital sensor that possibility in itself does not, and record exactly what is in reality.

Microstock photography

Stock photos are largely professional, or semi-professional presentation and sale of images made through websites. The above-mentioned thematic web sites are nothing more than `stores`, magazines often contain several million images. Professional stock agencies enableselling photos even to novice photographers, provided that certain criteria are met, and actually a lot criteria.

Camera Obscura - the beginnings

Camera obscura is a box or a locked room to which the light enters the interior through a small hole. Hence the name comes from the Latin camera obscura, a darkened room. Image of the pinhole camera is created on the basis of the intersection of the rays extending from the subject, which form on the film discs. The size depends on the diameter of the pinhole and the distance at which the photosensitive material is placed. However, the camera lens glass refract the rays from the object and focus the camera obscura to form punkty. The history of Camera Obscura dates back to ancient Egypt. Reportedly, the priests of Amun god Ra - the Sun God during the reign of Anenhotepa III were already familiar with the image capture. This hypothesis was announced by McCarter in 1928. This hypothesis was not confirmed until today.

The inverse focal length rule

I concluded that the rule of the inverse of the focal lenght has been adopted rather empirically, so there is nothing to hold on to this principle. Besides, it is not going to be linear, so it is not worth it to keep rigidly to this principle. Time to rev gave in the case of the calculator is 300 x 1.8 1 / 480 which means 1 / 500 exposure time.

But I suppose as a rule of thumb it gives you good idea on when to shoot from hand and when to use a tripod.
